CBO Initiatives

Speaker Series (December 2023)

The CBO Speaker Series offers students a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insights from accomplished individuals in diverse fields. Historically, our Speaker Series has featured entrepreneurs, investment analysts, equity research associates, and former CEOs, providing students with a broad perspective on various career paths. With multiple sessions typically offered each month, we actively seek out speakers from different professions to ensure that all Collingwood students can explore their interests.

In the upcoming weeks, we are in discussions to host additional distinguished speakers, including Jason Chong, Co-founder and CTO at Utopia Labs and former Software Engineer at Microsoft, as well as Daniel Frankel, Founder & CEO of Tap & Barrel Restaurants. While timings may undergo adjustments, the finalized dates and timings will be promptly announced on the CBO Instagram (@cwbusinessorganization), inviting students to engage with these valuable opportunities for career exploration

STEM & Business Career Fair

The primary objective of organizing a STEM and Business "speed-dating" career fair at Collingwood is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of potential career paths. By offering a platform for students to engage directly with professionals from various industries, the event aims to personalize career information, foster connections, and facilitate informed decision-making. The event will feature a "speed-dating" format where students rotate through brief sessions with professionals. Each session will last 3-5 minutes, followed by 15-minute breaks during which food will be provided for the professionals. The proposed guest field is predicted to encompass professionals from various fields, ranging from nuclear engineers, marine biologists, software developers, and cybersecurity analysts in the field of STEM/technology to investment bankers, financial consultants, public relations specialists, and risk analysts in the field of business and entrepreneurship.

The event will be initially open to Collingwood students for free, with the possibility of opening to the public for a nominal $5 charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Our target audience will be for grades 11 and 12 students!

The specific date and time are yet to be finalized, but the event is anticipated to take place in January 2024. Ideal time slots are considered to be Tuesday evenings (5-7 PM or 6-8 PM) or on days preceding professional development days, allowing for a later start the next day.

We hope that through this initiative, students will become more informed about different professions, helping them make more informed career choices. More information and signup opportunities will be posted on the CBO Instagram page closer to the date of the event.

Atira Baby Essentials Drive (January 2024)

CBO will be hosting a baby essentials drive to extend support to the Atira Women's Resource Society. The initiative showcases the school's commitment to addressing real societal needs, fostering a sense of shared responsibility. Additionally, the initiative creates opportunities for collaboration with local businesses and community organizations, potentially leading to lasting partnerships. By uniting community members around a common cause, the fundraiser promotes unity and solidarity, contributing to the greater community's cohesion and well-being.

The drive is scheduled for the week of January 22nd to January 26th, 2024. Baby essentials will be collected from the Wentworth campus and then transported to Morven after the drive concludes. More information on what items we will be looking for in particular will be posted on our Instagram approaching the deadline.

For this event, we are asking for volunteers from Morven to actively participate in organizing and facilitating the drive. While volunteers may miss certain class blocks, this will be a rewarding opportunity to directly engage with the community and contribute to a meaningful cause. Regardless of prior involvement in community-based activities, we welcome all students to reach out and join the initiative. Further details on how to sign up as a volunteer will be released soon.
