What’s Buzzing In The Biz?

Welcome to Collingwood Business Organization’s What’s Buzzing In The Biz! We will be featuring a variety of guest speakers who will be talking about various topics related to business.

Marissa Liu & Jason Chong: Tech

Marissa is currently a software engineer at Watershed Climate. I’ve been working here for four months and have spent the last two months working on the Marketplace product: a place where customers can purchase carbon removal, carbon offset, and clean power credits to reach their ambitious net-zero goals. She studied computer science and mathematics at Western University and interned at companies of various sizes, from a startup in Toronto to Google and Stripe. It’s clear where my preferences lie; I spent my final year in university running a climate tech startup called Neutral, a browser extension that unveils the environmental impact of your online purchases and allows you to offset your emissions, right from your shopping cart. Over the course of a year, Neutral was featured in Fast Company, TechCrunch, and Hacker Noon, with 1,000+ downloads and over 100,000 pounds of carbon dioxide offset as a community to date.

Jason is the Co-Founder and CTO at Utopia Labs where he is building software for cryptocurrency organizations called DAOs. (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) Before Utopia Labs, he graduated from UBC with a major in Business and Computer Science and also worked at Microsoft as a Software Engineer. He is passionate about disruptive technology and is always eager to chat about advancements in cryptography and blockchains, or about the future applications of blockchain tech in finance, media, gaming, and more.
